Christian Wietfeld appointed ITG Fellow

This prestigious award from the VDE professional association was presented to him for "his outstanding achievements in the field of modern mobile communications and communications technology". The VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) is one of the world's most important institutions for representing the interests of electrical engineering and has over 100,000 members.
In the laudatory speech by ITG Chairman Jörg-Peter Elbers (Adtran Networks), his internationally award-winning contributions to several generations of mobile network technologies (from 3G to 5G and currently 6G) were highlighted.
The focus of his more than 30 years of research and development work in science and industry lies in the radio-based networking of complex, safety-critical systems, such as traffic and logistics systems, energy networks and emergency services.
The award also recognizes Christian Wietfeld's great commitment to the transfer of research results into concretely usable technologies, whether in standardization, through spin-offs or through his many years as head of the VDE/ITG technical committee "Communication Networks and Systems" of the ITG. His teaching is also characterized by the fact that he uses current practical examples to establish a link to the application of scientific findings in business and society.
