Jumpstart, advice and tips
The orientation phase at the start of studies traditionally takes place in the week before the start of lectures in the winter semester.
It is organized and carried out by the student council and serves to make it easier for first-year students to start their studies. It is a good opportunity to clarify open questions and make initial contacts. Further information can be found on the corresponding page of the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology student council.

A comprehensive insight into the current range of courses on offer can be gained from the study plans and the recommended timetable. Corresponding information can also be found in the course catalog, which is available both online and in printed form 4 - 8 weeks before the start of lectures in Dortmund bookshops and at the University.
The student advisory service of the department will help you with questions related to your studies. They will provide you with information on the various degree courses, subject selection and career orientation. Incidentally, even later, when you are already studying, the Student Advisory Service is a helpful partner in solving any difficulties that may arise.
The Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB) provides general information for all subject areas at TU Dortmund University and on the general conditions for studying, etc. It also provides advice on problems during the course of studies.
There are several student halls of residence in the vicinity of the university, which are managed by the Studentenwerk of TU Dortmund University. If you are interested in a room in one of the halls of residence, you should contact the student union on the waiting list as early as possible, as waiting times can be long.
All students in the department belong to the student council. The student council solves many practical service tasks in the context of self-administration. Students help other students with questions about studying and student life. The help and advice from here complements the official student advisory service (see above). There are no regular opening hours, as students can usually be found in the student council room (Physics building, room P1-E0-314) at almost any time. The central functions of the student council, which every student will use in the course of their studies, are script sales and protocol sales. Scripts for current and old lectures are offered at the script sale, the protocol sale offers old exams and protocols for oral exams. The student council also organizes the aforementioned orientation phase for first-year students in the first week of the semester. Further information can be found directly on the website of the student council.
