For pupils
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology offers pupils and prospective students a wide range of information on all aspects of studying. These include the "Dortmunder Hochschultage" (usually in January), a "Do-Camp-Ing" event with projects, a "Schnupperuni" with lectures and taster internships to try out and a "School-Lab" with work and experimentation opportunities from all areas of technology and natural sciences.
Dortmund University Days
The department provides information about studying and career prospects in electrical engineering and information technology at the "Dortmund University Days". Interested high school students can gain exciting insights into electrical engineering and information technology through lectures, presentations and experiments. One-hour taster internships are also offered. These are laboratory demonstrations in small groups with their own practical activities.
Visiting program
The "taster work placements" held at our Electrical Engineering Days always prove to be particularly interesting. Due to numerous requests, we are now offering similar half-day work experience and information events with comparable content for smaller groups on individual dates. We are thinking in particular of the upper secondary school courses in the subjects of mathematics, physics, computer science, technology and especially the upper grades of the vocational grammar schools (Berufskolleg).
After notification of interest, we arrange a date with the respective course leader and put together an individual program tailored to the interests of the course participants. Such visit programs have been arranged and carried out repeatedly in the past.
For further questions and individual advice, please contact the Student Advisory Service.
Do-Camp-Ing
Do-camp-ing (2002-2019) was the name of the now defunct project with which the Technical University of Dortmund wanted to arouse young people's interest in engineering.
Taster University
The SchnupperUni is aimed at high school students. During the SchnupperUni, they can get to know the Technical University of Dortmund and, in particular, the scientific and technical subjects. It lasts one week and the one-week program includes lectures, experiments and exercises, as well as plenty of opportunities to make contact with students and lecturers. We would also like to offer special advice to schoolgirls to inform them about their excellent prospects in the field of electrical and computer engineering. The SchnupperUni takes place during the summer vacation and thus also during the lecture-free period, so that the lectures that the pupils can attend are offered especially for the visitors. They should give a realistic impression of the respective subject and be fun.
DLR School Lab
The School-Lab was developed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and TU Dortmund University, making it the first school laboratory of its kind in NRW to be run jointly by a major research institution and a university. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is participating in this project with an exciting robot workstation where you can direct program-controlled robots in action. Open day
In addition to the summer festival with accompanying open-air concerts, it is above all the Open Day that attracts young and old from Dortmund and the surrounding area to the campus. A stroll along the engineering and natural sciences street is full of variety. On the course of the technical departments, students and scientists use exhibits and experimental stations to show how interesting, exciting and not at all gray-theoretical studying technical disciplines can be. In front of the "sun deck", white sand and a beach volleyball court provide a Caribbean feeling in the middle of the Pott. But not only here, in almost all lecture halls and foyers of the university buildings, visitors can get an idea of life and work at the TU with lectures, laboratory tours and exhibitions.
