By car

The TU Dortmund campus is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the Sauerland line A45 crosses the Ruhr expressway B1/A40. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, while the Dortmund-Dorstfeld and -Barop exits on the A40 lead to the North Campus. The university is signposted at the exits. There is a charging station for electric cars on the North Campus, Vogelpothsweg.

By bus and train

The Dortmund University S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S1 S-Bahn line runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund Central Station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf Central Station via Bochum, Essen, and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447, and 462. Timetable information can be found on the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association website, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route map.

H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of TU Dortmund University is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes you to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes, and from there you can take the S-Bahn to the university. A wider range of international flights is available at Düsseldorf Airport, around 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

Professor Onur Günlü Receives the “2026 IEEE Communications Society & Information Theory Society Joint Best Paper Award”

Professor Onur Günlü of TU Dortmund University has been recognized for fundamental research on secure integrated sensing and communication.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Onur Günlü, Head of the Institute of Communications Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ETIT) at TU Dortmund University, received the “2026 IEEE Communications Society & Information Theory Society Joint Best Paper Award.

The award recognizes his paper, "Secure Integrated Sensing and Communication," published in the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Information Theory (JSAIT) in 2023. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) allows future wireless networks to use the same radio signals both to transmit data and to sense their surroundings. This efficiency also raises a new security challenge: How can confidential information be protected when the target being sensed can receive the same signals and potentially use them to eavesdrop?

The paper addresses this challenge through an information-theoretic model and investigates the fundamental trade-offs between secure data transmission and sensing accuracy. The results provide important theoretical foundations for developing secure andonur gunlu privacy-preserving 6G systems.

Presented annually by the IEEE Communications Society and the IEEE Information Theory Society, the award honors outstanding publications at the intersection of communications and information theory. The selection considers research quality, originality, practical relevance, timeliness, and presentation. At the Institute of Communications Engineering, these topics feed directly into research, teaching, and student theses on secure wireless systems.
