ETIT departments at RUB and TU Dortmund University are stepping up their collaboration

The goal of the event was to gain a better understanding of the diverse research activities of both departments and to identify new areas of collaboration for future joint projects and partnerships.
During poster sessions, the departments and research groups presented their respective research focuses and current topics. This gave participants the opportunity to exchange ideas on related research approaches, discover areas of overlap, and develop initial ideas for stronger collaboration.
Following this, the discussion was continued in small groups. Together, the researchers discussed promising areas of research that could be pursued on a cross-university basis in the future. These include, among others, efficient data transmission in data centers for AI applications, automation and robotics in medical technology, as well as the structures and safe operation of electrical grids.
Additional areas of collaboration were identified in the definition and control of interfacial processes using plasmas, battery and vehicle electrical systems, and partial discharge measurement in switchgear. Possible joint activities in the area of early-career researchers were also discussed, such as a graduate college in the field of collaborative robotics or joint communication and sensing.
The network meeting also underscores the close strategic collaboration between Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University. Just a few days earlier, both universities celebrated a major success together in the Excellence Strategy: With their partnership in the Ruhr Innovation Lab, they convinced the international expert commission and will receive joint funding as an Excellence Network in the future.
Exchange is now set to be further intensified at the department level as well. The ideas developed at the network meeting offer numerous starting points for this and are to be further fleshed out in the coming months.
