By car

The TU Dortmund campus is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the Sauerland line A45 crosses the Ruhr expressway B1/A40. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, while the Dortmund-Dorstfeld and -Barop exits on the A40 lead to the North Campus. The university is signposted at the exits. There is a charging station for electric cars on the North Campus, Vogelpothsweg.

By bus and train

The Dortmund University S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S1 S-Bahn line runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund Central Station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf Central Station via Bochum, Essen, and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447, and 462. Timetable information can be found on the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association website, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route map.

H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of TU Dortmund University is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes you to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes, and from there you can take the S-Bahn to the university. A wider range of international flights is available at Düsseldorf Airport, around 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

21st Dortmund Auto Day – A Dialogue Between Science and Practice

DortmunderAutoTag 2026 Participants — In 2026, Prof. Torsten Bertram once again welcomed numerous sponsors and participants to the 21st Dortmund Auto Day at TU Dortmund University.

On September 3, the Chair of Control Systems Engineering hosted the 21st Dortmund Auto Day on the South Campus. Experts from academia and industry provided insights into research topics and forward-looking developments in the automotive industry and the mobility transition through presentations and a trade exhibition. Every year, the event provides a platform to exchange ideas on the latest technological advancements, forge valuable connections, and jointly develop visions for the mobility of tomorrow.

The technical presentations focused, among other topics, on autonomous driving, new approaches to human-machine interaction, the teleoperation of automated vehicles, and the use of artificial intelligence to design intelligent and safe transportation systems.

The program was complemented by a trade exhibition where companies and institutions presented research vehicles, demonstrators, and other exhibits, offering insights into current developments in mobility research and technology.

Exhibitors and partners at this year’s DortmunderAutoTag included the BMW branch in Dortmund (main sponsor), CarByte Engineering GmbH (Rülzheim) as a supporter, HOLON GmbH (Paderborn), AMETEK CTS Europe GmbH (Kamen), EMC Test NRW GmbH (Dortmund), and GET racing Dortmund e. V., the Formula Student team from TU Dortmund University.

In addition, researchers from TU Dortmund University, together with industry partners, presented their publicly funded research projects on the mobility of the future.

The research approaches range from fundamental scientific questions to practical applications. Among other things, the focus is on sensor fusion in autonomous vehicles and the current challenges of connectivity in the automotive sector.
