Location & approach

By car

The TU Dortmund campus is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the Sauerland line A45 crosses the Ruhr expressway B1/A40. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, while the Dortmund-Dorstfeld and -Barop exits on the A40 lead to the North Campus. The university is signposted at the exits. There is a charging station for electric cars on the North Campus, Vogelpothsweg.

By bus and train

The Dortmund University S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S1 S-Bahn line runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund Central Station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf Central Station via Bochum, Essen, and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447, and 462. Timetable information can be found on the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association website, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route map.

H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of TU Dortmund University is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes you to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes, and from there you can take the S-Bahn to the university. A wider range of international flights is available at Düsseldorf Airport, around 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

The facilities of TU Dortmund University are located on two campuses, the larger North Campus and the smaller South Campus. In addition, some university facilities are located in the adjacent Dortmund Technology Park as well as in the city center and the wider urban area.

Image signal processing

Image processing is concerned with the development of methods for the automated analysis of image data.
One focus of the Image Signal Processing department is on methods for image-based 3D reconstruction of surfaces, for example for industrial measurement and testing technology for the three-dimensional measurement of industrial components with the aim of detecting quality defects.

Structures and movement patterns visible in image data are interpreted using pattern classification methods.
Furthermore, approaches are being developed for the image-based generation of topographical maps and for the analysis of spectral data for remote sensing, in which the aim is to determine the three-dimensional structure of planetary surfaces and the type of rocks and minerals of which they are composed.
