Control system technology

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Torsten Bertram

The interdisciplinary research focus at the RST Chair ranges from automated driving and human-robot collaboration to elastic lightweight robotics.

The overarching modelling, identification, control and optimization of networked mechatronic systems as well as machine learning are among the key competencies here. These help to ensure a targeted approach to both basic research and commercial application.

The focus is on:

  • Driver assistance systems and automated driving functions to increase safety, efficiency and comfort in road traffic
  • Hardware test benches and simulations for the optimization, control and regulation of vehicle systems
  • Trajectory optimization for accepted and safe human-robot collaboration based on rigid and elastic lightweight robots
  • Motion planning of mobile robots for real-time navigation in dense environments

The institute has excellently equipped laboratories for the verification and validation of its own developments both in real time and under industrial and operational conditions.
