Communication networks

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Wietfeld

  • Research focus: Design and performance evaluation of highly reliable wireless communication networks - especially future 6G networks - for immersive cyber-physical systems (energy, transportation, logistics, production, rescue robotics, smart city)

  • Numerous collaborative research projects (50+) funded by federal ministries (research, economy, transport, environment), DFG, EU, state of NRW and industry

  • Excellently equipped labs: Multi-Networking-Technology Lab (5G/6G, Software-defined Radio, Software-defined Networks), Rescue Robotics Lab, Automotive Cyber-Physical Playground, Smart Grid Communications Lab, Mobile 5G/6G Lab for ad-hoc network operation in real environments
  • Regular contributions to international standardization and open source projects (e.g. ns-3/OMNeT++, Open RAN)
  • Involved in VDE/ITG (communication networks and systems) and IEEE (e.g. co-editorship of IEEE Wireless Communication Magazine)

  • International network: research institutes, network operators, manufacturers and user groups
  • Awards: Numerous best paper awards (primarily IEEE), VDE/ITG awards (best publication, sponsorship award), awards for spin-offs (including "ICT start-up of the year")
