Energy conversion

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Pfost

The Chair of Energy Conversion works on current topics of the energy transition and provides contributions for future, highly relevant applications in the private sector, in electromobility and in industry.

To this end, we combine our core competencies in the fields of power electronic systems, semiconductor components and electrical machines.

We are researching the great potential of modern power semiconductors. In this way, we are driving forward the development of compact and highly efficient power electronics, which we use to enable innovative concepts for electrical machines, among other things. Our research topics mainly arise from the tasks in these core areas:

  • Characterization and modelling of modern power semiconductors
  • Innovative control methods for power semiconductors
  • Fast-switching and highly efficient power electronics
  • New concepts for electrical machines
  • Thermal characterization of power electronic systems
  • Reliability, prognostics and health management
