Dortmund University Days 2025

As part of the Dortmund University Days on January 15 and 16, 2025, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is offering a wide range of study and career information for interested school pupils under the motto "Experience fascinating research topics up close". A great opportunity to get a taste of university life, the department's degree programs and the everyday working life of an engineer.

Experience fascinating research topics up close

with our bookable events.

For all these events, the common meeting point at the booked time is the Student Advisory Service stand in the foyer of the Physics building, Otto-Hahn-Str. 4, from where you will be guided to the relevant laboratories. The map shows the two-minute walk from the Mensa building to the Physics building (OH4 Physics), which you then enter directly via the entrance in the foyer.

Workshop / Laboratory

High voltage with lightning and sparks

You will experience the possible effects of high voltages and currents in the form of discharge phenomena in high-voltage technology up close in an experimental demonstration.

There will be bangs and flashes! So don't be so jumpy ;-)

Registration

Production of a microchip

You will be guided through the process steps required to manufacture modern microchips in the clean room laboratory and experience at first hand what microstructure technology has in common with photography, baking or plaster casts, and in the end you will be one chip richer!

Registration

Ultra-robust 6G rescue robotics with spotlight

Say hello to Boston robot dog Spot in our colors and learn how it can provide high reliability for radio links for rescue robotics with a multi-link implementation to combine various technologies such as 5G, satellite and WLAN even in challenging outdoor environments in rescue and disaster scenarios.

Registration

3+4=2! Twisted math for encryption technology

Without realizing it, we rely on this twisted math when using our cell phones and computers. Let's uncover these hidden processes and understand why 3+4=2 is sometimes right after all! And we'll see how, for example, our cell phones use it to protect wireless transmission to the Internet.

Registration

A robot scratches the curve

Experience the speed of an AI-controlled RC vehicle on a race track and try to achieve similarly good lap times with remote control of an identical RC vehicle. Program a pre-built Lego robot with the necessary intelligence for autonomous navigation! Will your robot achieve the fastest lap?

Registration (in planning)

Program overview

Time of day Topic
8.30 - 9.45 a.m. Info event
Don't study just anything - you're not just anyone
Become an engineer and really help shape our future

You don't want to just babble wildly, but rather educate yourself and get involved yourself?
As an engineer, you can help shape the energy transition or make an important contribution to securing our quality of life in other exciting future topics such as artificial intelligence, 6G communication, quantum computing, robotics, automated driving and electromobility with sustainable and intelligent technology of tomorrow.

The research and development-oriented degree programs offered by ETIT will be presented as part of an information lecture, and possible job profiles and career prospects for our engineering graduates will be highlighted based on some selected ETIT research topics. Questions of any kind are always welcome!

Leonhard-Euler-Straße 5, Mechanical Engineering Building (MB I), Lecture Hall HS 1 (site plan LE5)
10.00 - 15.30 Individual consultation
Become an engineer ?

Our research and development-oriented degree programs at ETIT offer an excellent basis for engineering activities in many currently very important as well as newly developing fields of technology on the way to a climate-neutral industrial society. As part of an individual consultation, all aspects of studying, topics and research fields at ETIT as well as possible job profiles and career prospects of our engineering graduates can be highlighted.

Otto-Hahn-Str. 4, Physics Foyer (site plan OH4 Physics)
10.15 - 11.45 a.m.
and
12.15 - 1.45 p.m.
Workshop / Lab
Experience fascinating research topics up close

We are opening up some lab areas to allow you to experience our fascinating research topics such as artificial intelligence, 6G communication, quantum computing, robotics and automated driving up close. Registration is required in advance for all workshops offered.
